A little while ago Ginny's mum suggested I enter a photo in the NTI Global contest running on the DogSport Magazine Facebook page. They're looking for a new face to advertise their products, and after some deliberation, I decided to enter this face:

I chose this photo because I figured they'd get a million sport-specific entries, and because this photo is high resolution, and it shows his keen intensity, but would be easy to manipulate in photo software to eliminate or change the background when necessary.

I entered it in the contest and then thought no more of it, until today when I learned that not only had Dexter's photo made it into the top 100 submissions entered, but then into the top 10 photos chosen by NTI from all the submissions. Go Dexter!

You can help Dexter win by voting on the Facebook page. I think you'll have to become a fan or "like" DogSport magazine on Facebook to cast your vote. But wouldn't it be cool if Dexter was the new canine face of NTI Global? If you're on Facebook, and you have a free moment, we'd appreciate your vote! I win a tunnel from NTI if he wins, and that's a nice bonus, but mostly I just want to see a rescue dog advertising their agility gear.

All Good Things Come To An End

This is it, folks ... this is the last official day of 365puppy. When I started this blog, I wanted to document Dexter's first year and today Dexter Morgan (and all the Peanut Gang) are one year old. I didn't always get a photo up every day, because I sure underestimated how difficult that would be, but I did my best to chart his growth and his progress in photos.

It's hard to believe that this little peanut

Is now this handsome young adult!

Who knew he'd turn out so darn well? And so good lookin' too :)

He is now one year old, 40lbs and almost 23" at the shoulder. He's a lean machine, full of heart, full of try, and full of wonderfully, snuggly love. He's turning into a FANTASTIC dog, and I'm looking forward to many more years of discovery with my GiraffeDog!

Happy Birthday to ALL the Peanuts Gang - Ace, Ally, Cricket, Gin, Hoot, Paddy and Sagan.

Thanks to all of you for sharing this journey with us. I'm not going to be posting daily, or even quasi-daily updates anymore - this is it. From time to time, I will throw up an update, or a photo I particularly like, and for the next few days I will be posting new photos of Dex's siblings so you can see what everyone looks like now ... but if you want to continue to see Dex on a regular basis, you'll have to visit him, and the rest of the gang, at Wootube.

Dexter Stands On Stuff Deux

A few posts ago on Wootube I talked about how Dexter had started jumping up to stand on "stuff"

He is still jumping up to stand on stuff.

My neighbours stood up this old pallet to practice knife throwing (don't ask).

It's been there for a couple of weeks. We walk past it maybe 4 or 5 times a day on walks. Dex has always ignored it, but today, he decided to jump up on it.

Now keep in mind, at NO TIME did I ask him to do this. I was just walking along with all 8 dogs and he threw himself up there.

Attempt #1:

He misjudged and ended up throwing himself over the other side.

So he came back around and tried again:

The end result?

He still regularly jumps up on the trampoline on his own volition too.

Does anyone else have a puppy that just jumps up on things as high as your head? Or is it just mine??

I suppose I have neglected to mention that Dexter is pretty much "Tips Up" all the time now. That one ear is still not as rigid as the other one that went up a long time ago, and a stiff wind can blow it over, but he is definitely an uppy-eared dog for good. I kind of miss his floppies, but he's still very handsome, and he is still has lazers for eyes ;-)

Sister Ally

"Ally is 35 lbs and measures 22 inches (from floor to shoulder) – she is long and lean. Her fur is very wavy and her tail fur is long and fluffy. She has very uppity ears. We thought we had smart border collies before – but Ally is unbelievable. Ally has quite a personality – she likes to squeak when she yawns and rolls over on to her back when she is sleeping.

She isn’t the least bit graceful for a girl – she just flops down like a sack of potatoes when she’s tired and runs and down the stairs like an elephant. Her eyes have so much expression because the white shows quite a bit.

We absolutely love, love, love her! We feel so blessed to have adopted such a wonderful puppy. Thank you so much!"

"At nine months, Gin is 35.2 lbs and she's level with a side table we have that's 20" high. She's the PERFECT border collie for us, and we are so, so, soooo grateful that we were allowed to adopt her. You know the old saying: "Dogs aren't our whole lives, but they make our lives whole"? Paddy loves to swim and splash in puddles. He enjoys pinecones and leaves as much as his kongs and balls. He currently weighs 34lbs and measures 20" at the shoulder.

"Hoot Man Bad Dog"

22" at the shoulder and a whopping 43lbs of bones and hair!

"Hoot's new name is Hootman Bad Dog. He's been super naughty & pesty this week. He makes up for it (mostly) by also being uber-snuggly. He just smashes his ill-mannered little head into my chest and leans in for a good scratch. He's actually been a great dog- drives us nuts a lot, but we haven't had a puppy around in 8 years. We're spoiled on our nice older dogs :)

Hoot has recently started showing intense interest in stock. He definitely has great feel for sheep- I think he's going to be a quiet, powerful stock dog. I'm still planning on sending Hoot out for training this winter. Then hopefully we'll hit the trial field next year."
