I would consider lining the entry area with water absorbing mats, and then covering those with towels. The mats will really block the floor and absorb the wet... the towels can easily be laundered. http://www.matsmatsmats.com/commercial-industrial/indoor-carpet/sponge-mat.html#back just as an example. I originally come from a place with a 7 month mud season (with clay), so I do feel your pain.
